Audio Systems: Sony walkman model NW-E505, sony walkman, sony nw e505

Question
QUESTION: hi my mp3 was working fine, until by accident I deleted what I think is the driver. The mp3 stopped working, and it displayed no item. I tried formatting it, but later got format error. Tried to reset the mp3, but did not work, until I did format it in the device main menu. I later went to Sony website and downloaded the driver and other stuff, and it finally worked, but only 1 song would play. later did it begin to display a "memory message". Now even my computer is not recognizing it when i connect it to my laptop.

Not sure what to do. Help is appreciated

ANSWER: For format error, see these discussions.  The last one on the page should be helpful for you:

For the driver question, you should reload the driver software, too.
You can get them here:

Thus: If you reformat and remove the old driver and reload/update from Sony it should restore to normal operation.  Hope this helps.

QUESTION: thank you for replying. I have tried downloading the drives, but the promblem is my laptop is not recognizing my mp3 anymore. When iconnect it via the usb, and i click removable disk it does not detect it. On the mp3 all it says is usb connect, and when i disconnect it the message "memory error" appears.

ANSWER: Have you tried another usb cable?

If your pc is not recognizing the presence of the connection to the player via the usb cable something is wrong for sure; either the cable or the player is defective thus preventing the pc from recognizing it.

Of course it is also possible the PC needs a reboot or checking out of the USB port.  Have you tried a flash drive in the same USB port to see if the pc is doing its job?

Let me know the outcome; interesting case.

QUESTION: I did try a memory stick in both usb ports to see if my laptop was the problem, but both worked fine at recognizing the memory stick. Today I tried connecting the mp3 to my sisters laptop and it did not recognize it either. I also tried two other usb cables, but had the same result. I think its the player thats defective. Not sure what else to do

Answer
Sorry. Sound like you have verified the rascal just isn't responding to the USB protocol.  It means the storage unit in the player has had the O/S I/O stripped out or it is defective.

I don't have any further ideas.  Try an expert from allexperts in the PC and storage category to see if they have some brainiac idea.
