Audio Systems: speaker system, sony str, equipment recommendations

I'm currently moving and my current stereo and surround system take up way too much space. I was wondering if you could suggest an affordable 5.1 receiver ( I have a good subwoofer) and a speaker system or individual speakers.I was looking at the sony cr3000 ssb1000  ssb3000 sscn5000 . I would like to try and keep the speakers small , but I listen to lots of music. I would also like to keep the cost down somewhat. I was looking at the sony str dh500 receiver and also the energy take classic 5 pack. All of these speakers and such are within my price range. I guess I'm looking for good music and movie sound from smaller speakers at an affordable price.Any suggestions?

Aren't we all?  I don't give equipment recommendations because it is so subjective in nature.  The most subjective of all is sound quality itself.  And, who is to judge what "your" ears will hear?

I suggest you shop around, pick out 3 or 4 potential winners and then go to a retail environment where you can listen and poke around with it.

A good place to start is google shopping, then to bestbuy.com and such places.

Also, there are several cites that do reviews; again, best way to access them is to get a few selections in mind then google for reviews on that model or product.

Your research will pay off,  for sure.  And good Luck.

PS:  Small speakers will compromise sound, especially for low frequencies.  If your sub it good that will help, but don't skimp too far or you may end up with sound you can't live with.
