Audio Systems: Alpine CDA-105 /No audio from CD player, alpine cda, external amplifier

Question
I installed a new Alpine CDA-105 stereo/cd player in our 1994 Explorer, we receive great audio from the stereo but no audio from the cd player. Note: From the display you can see that it is playing the cd ok. A professional installer said that the explorer probably has a remote amplifier in the vehicle that the cd player will not work with since it has an internal amp. He advised me to locate the amplifier (under the seat or in rear panel) and see if the cd player is activating it and if not then to wire around it. Does this sound like the best solution or should I just buy a stereo that is better matched to the vehicle? I find it strange that the stereo will work through the speakers but the cd player will not.
Thanks for any info that you can provide.

Answer
Yes, the comments of the installer make good sense.  There may be a remote turn on to the amplifier that the cd does not activate.

If you can find the external amplifier see if it is coming on when in the CD mode.  If there is no light on it you may not be able to tell.

But, here is a way to find out:  The amplifier would have three power wires: One is ground, two are 12v where one is constant 12v battery and the other is for turning it ON.  Take a short wire and just touch the two 12v terminals together.  This will turn on the amplifier if the cd player is not doing so.   Then, after verification that the sound comes on you must find the remote wire that is not connecting to the amplifier - or you could wire in your own bypass wire and place a switch under the seat or under the dash or something like that.

Hope this helps.

PS Another unit may not be any different for this function; better to solve the problem here.
