hi Robert i have recently purchased a pioneer djm800 mixer
as i am a DJ. i tried to record using the record output
using a phono to mini jack lead but the sound was badly
distorted i have checked all levels and have even tried
different recording equipment but still the same any help
would be great

The fact that you are using a 3.5mm mini output or input is the first sign of trouble. By design the outputs and inputs using mini connectors are a different impedance as well as sensitivity. There is an incompatibility with RCA inputs and outputs as far as recording is concerned. You should be using RCA in's and out's on the Mixer and recording equipment. If you are using a PC then you need to get a sound card (either internal or external. You should not use mini outs for anything other than headphones and mini ins for speech recording as the quality is not good.
