Audio Systems: FQ responce, frequency responce, vinly

Question
Hello my sherwood RX-4105 reciver has a Frequency Responce that says 10hz-100khz +3db so what does that mean?

Answer
For all practical purposed that information is useless. If in fact if their electronics was that flat in that range, it should be used in a laboratories for testing to test dogs and other animals that can hear those frequencies. In the old days when there was vinly, with good transcription turntables and cartridges, harmonics would reach well into the 30 to 40khz range. What all of this means is that your ears are only able at best to hear 30hz to 17khz unless you are a woman. Women generally can hear about 3,000 cycles higher then men. Also know that CD's which carry a better frequency range then mp3's are only capable of reproducing frequencies up to 20khz. With CD's there are no harmonics which means all frequencies above 20khz are non existent. It is true that DVD's can reproduce much higher frequencies, but for the most part the engineers that mix them are more interested in reproduction of low frequencies as well as mid (or dialog articulation frequencies).
