Audio Systems: very low sound level from speakers, jeep wrangler, capacitor

Question
the speakers(4)in my jeep wrangler are so low in volume that you must put your ear up to them to hear sound. I have reolaced the 2 back speakers. no change. I have sprayed with electronic parts cleaner. no improvement.

Answer
Butch,
The low audio may be due to either a defective audio output amp in the stereo or because the sound to the amp is muted for some reason. On many radios that have low output I find that the audio to the amp is muted due to a shorted mute transistor or a shorted mute hold capacitor.
