Audio Systems: conversion, cassette tape recordings, family narratives

Question
a) What do I need to do to convert old cassette tape recordings to cd or to save them on my computer? They are special family narratives that I treasure.

b)How would I locate someone who can remove the background noise on such recordings to make them clearer, for one particular tape?

Answer
Either a stand alone CD burner with RCA inputs or burning software for a Mac or PC with a sound card that either has RCA inputs 3 conductor mini input. You will then need either RCA to RCA cables or an adapter from 3.5mm 3 conductor male plug to RCA males plugs. On the cassette player - Be sure that you fast forward to the end or the tape then rewind before you attempt to play. That way you may prevent kinks in the tape causing jamming problems. Also you should take a cotton swab and clean the cassette units pressure roller before using the player. If the tape does not want to move forward then DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLAY IT.
