Car Stereos: Car stereo upgrade, pannasonic, decent sound

Hi
I have just purchase a car from my Dad that has a tape system and standard speakers! At the moment I run my portable MD or Ipod through the system but it gives quite a poor quality sound. I desperately need to upgrade to a MD(/CD) system that will give me a decent sound. I don't really know where to start. Please could you give me some advice on what to look for and possibly details of a few makes/ models to have a look out. I am in the UK

Hi Phil.

there is just a bunch of head units that i personnally like to list them all.
check out pioneer, jvc, pannasonic, kenwood, eclipse's web site and kinda look tru them or visit a local car audio store and let your wallet and your ears decide sorry i cant tell you what to buy but those brands are the ones that we carry and they all have warranty so just make sure you get your warranty.
