Audio Systems: Phone Preamp, phono preamplifier, magnetic cartridges

I purchased a Technics DVD Stereo System Model: SC-DV290 in 2007. There is no connection for a Turntable (Model: SP131) I also purchased. I was advised to buy a Phone Preamp. What is this item and would it be compatible? Would it work? And is there a specific model/serial number for the phone preamp? I would be so grateful for your advice. Thanking you in advance.

The magnetic cartridge in your turntable does require a phono preamplifier.  You can purchase them from many manufacturers at prices from $15 to hundreds - depending on your level of quality.

All phono preamps have the RIAA equalization built in for proper response when TT with magnetic cartridges are used.
