Mitsubishi Repair: hesitation while idle and taking off, coil pack, auto parts store

Question
Anthony,

I have changed my plugs and wires and I am still having the same problem with the car misfiring when I am at a stop light or taking off at least 1st and 2nd.  I am at my wits end.  What could be causing this problem.  I am about to spend $100 on the ignition coil.  Before doing so is there anything else I should check.  I have had my "service engin light" checked and it is a misfire on 4.  Like I said I have changed all wires and plugs and still get the same reading after reset.  Please help!!!

Thanks,

Roy

Answer
Roy,
You didn't mention what car you have, but you can look in your local auto parts store for a service manual for your car.  Most manuals will show how to test your ignition system to help pinpoint the cause of your problem.  You should have the timing checked to see if it's set properly.

If your ignition system uses a distributor, you should replace the distributor cap and rotor.  If your car uses a distributorless ignition coil pack, you should test your coil pack before buying a new one.
Good luck!
