Audio Systems: GM Stereo options for Aux function, gm auxiliary input, gm input jack

Question
QUESTION: Ernesto,
I have a 2006 Chevy truck that has a factory AM/FM/single CD player.  It has the Bose speakers in the doors and the tweeter in the front pillars.  On the front of the head unit it has a button that says "CD Aux" which gives me the impression there is a pigtail somewhere behind it allowing me to hook up a CD changer if I choose.  I note from the options list in the factory sales booklet that there was an upgrade for an "AM/FM stereo with in-dash six-disc CD changer and Bose speaker system"--the description in the booklet for my unit is "AM/FM stereo with CD player" but mine does have the Bose speakers.  My questions are:
1.  Is my head unit a Bose head unit or is it just Bose speakers?
2.  If I change my head unit will the Bose speakers work well with a quality aftermarket unit that has HD radio and or inputs for digital music or will I have to get new speakers (I hear things about Bose proprietery system)?
3.  If there is a pigtail for an aux CD changer can I instead use that connection for an I pod or other MP3 player (I have not bought one yet). Thanks for any help.

ANSWER: 1 yes you have a BOSE head unit
2 if you replace the factory radio it will be best to remove the bose amplifiers and bose speakers, they are 1.5 ohms and will damage the new head unit

3 there is no pigtail behind the radio

but there is a way to do all that AUX, IPOD and factory HD or XM SIRIUS

HD
didn't find that but it is available and you keep your radio

QUESTION: Thanks for the detailed info.  I have one question--if there is no pig tail behind the radio for the aux where do I plug in either of the two alternative systems that are suggested above (AUX and IPOD) for my 2006 Chevy silverado (extended cab)?

ANSWER: they all plug into the factory XM connector

QUESTION: As my truck did not come with XM radio will it still have this connector slot in the back of the unit and will I need any special tools to remove it (I have completed several stereo changes on other vehicles but I understand several newer vehicles have anti-theft devices requiring certain tools for removal)?

Answer
All GM Chevy vehicles from 2003 and up are XM ready and have the input on the back side of the radio for the XM tunner, in this same plug you can connect the auxiliary audio input or the iPod interface and you can control it from the factory GM radio
