Auto body repair & detailing: paint, 3m masking tape, masking paper

Question
Hello Brian, this will be my final question, I am interested in saving a few dollars at the local body shop by covering all windows(except the windshield and wheelwells) and taking off all exterior lights, my question is what can you use for the windows(I take it newspaper wouldn't be ideal) also they have out at Lowes called painters tape, would that be good enough for the edges?
Thank you

P.S.  I'm going to tape up windows and remove the lights in the body shops parking lot the day before painting.  Thank you very much for answering all my questions, you are and will be highly recommended by me.
                      Take care.

Answer
You need a roll of 3/4 and 2" 3M masking tape believe me no other will do. As far as paper masking paper is the only kind of paper to use. News paper collects dust and transfers it to your wet paint. Ask the shop if they will sell you some of there masking paper to mask it up in there driveway. If they dont give you a few dollars worth dont you think they are being cheap? If they dont, I would question myself about having my car sprayed there.
