Audio Systems: Pioneer SX-1980, pioneer sx, headphone jack

Question
Hello, I have a late model Pioneer SX-1980 stereo 2 channel receiver. It is not putting out any sound but it is still getting the signal. The channel indicators won't move. The whole unit powers up like normal. Ran great for years. Any ideas?. Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Don

Answer
Do you have the speaker switch set for the right A or B?

Is the mute switch ON?

Does the headphone jack give sound?

After checking all the obvious and it still does not work, it is likely the output or driver stage has gone bad. It takes a good audio tech to test the voltages around the output stages to find the culprit.  If the outputs need replacement and new heat grease or something like that the cost will range in the $100 area.

Unfortunately, for around $100 you can purchase a new stereo receiver that is likely equal or greater performance than this Pioneer (it being so old).

Best wishes,
C
