Audio Systems: car audio system, external amplifier, 2000 buick lesabre

Question
i want to kook up a system in a 2000 buick lesabre but want to keep my factory radio. what is the name of the part i need. thank you for your time mike.

Answer
I assume you are talking about adding an external amplifier to feed additional speakers.

You need an audio feed from the existing head unit to the input of the new amplifier.

The easiest way is to use a hi-lo adapter kit.  This device will connect from the speaker output of the head unit and convert the signal for input level to the new amp.

You can purchase these at such places as BestBuy, Walmart, crutchfield.com and installer.com for around $20 and up.  But, I need to know more about the car's current system in order to provide the exact unit for best performance.  You can look up the right one by yourself, however, by going to crutchfield.com and working through the "outfit my car" process which will end with a listing of various items that are compatible with your car.

Also, installer.com has a list of various hi-lo adapters that work with Buicks of your vintage:

Hope this helps.
