Audio Systems: Sony STR-D511 & Samsung HDTV, bose acoustimass 5, bose acoustimass

Question
QUESTION: I just purchased a Samsung HDTV Model LN52A650 and am attempting to hook up my Sony STR D511 amplifier and Bose Acoustamass speakers to it. Doesn't seem to be going smoothly. Any suggestions, or am I wasting my time? Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Is the Acoustimass the system designed for a Bose receiver? Bose make quite a few variations. Give me ore details about how you are connecting everything.

QUESTION: It is a Bose Acoustimass - 5 Series II, uf that helps. I am new to this HDMI stuff, but I know there is no HDMI on this 15 year old (or more) receiver/amplifier. The instructions (generic) from the TV manufacturer were very vague. I am waiting to see if Sony will answer me or not (not holdiong my breath). Thanks

Answer
Sony tech support is overwhelmed with support questions about their current equipment no less a 15 year old amplifier. I assure you that there aren't any techs working at Sony who would know any more than you about that receiver. If you are trying to use that old Sony receiver with the hopes of taking advantage of the Samsung HDMI, then you are wasting your time. I don't believe that receiver is capable of component switching which means trying to use it for video will cause degradation of the signal as well as the fact that it won't auto sense the resolution and aspec ratio.

As far as hooking up the speakers to the receiver that should be a simple process. Visit this website for a diagram on hooking up a receiver to the 5 Series II http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/1/488954.html.
