Question
QUESTION: I have a set of Klipsch 5.1 promedia computer speakers that I would now like to use to play music directly form an ipod. The ipod has only a low pwer 2 channel output. Is there a way to use some type of converter or preamp to convert to the 3 inputs on the klipsch system ( rear r/l, front r/l, center - subwoofer )The klipsch subwoofer contains a pwered amp.?

ANSWER: If you are using iTunes or some other interface to your computer, you can simply access all playing features with the same tracks that are on your iPod.

QUESTION: There is a misunderstanding. I do not want to keep a computer connected to the speakers. Again, I am not going to use a computer in the interface. I want to connect the ipod directly to the speakers. No computer involved please.

ANSWER: The Klipsch amplifier is furnished with a 3.5mm stereo jack which should match the level required by the 5.1 system.

see http://www.klipsch.com/media/products/owners-manuals/ULTRA51MANUAL_ENGLISH.pdf  page 5 (portable music player input)

The stereo source will only come through the front two speakers. You cannot process this signal to simulate surround sound but you can purchase two 3.5mm (2 male to 1 female) splitters to feed the rear speakers with the same inputs as the front.

QUESTION: I understand that the ipod alone will not support the 5.1 speaker system alone. I am looking for a product with limited functionality to do what a computer with a sound card will do - convert the 2 channel ipod mp3 to a format that can input the speaker system. Presumably this would include software and a preamp. This would serve the same function as playing I tunes through a large computer, but without all the other Windows functions. Do you know of such a product?

Answer
I know of no such unit.I personally have the experience to make a device that could function in that manner but I would use components from different manufactures to do so. Since I have no need for such a device I have not researched it.  Perhaps you would get a definitive answer if you called Klipsch tech support.
