Audio Systems: blowing fuses, dual voice coils, transistor fet

Question
i have a new system and its been working fine for a week. then i got in my car today day and started it and the main 100A fuse under the hood blew. so i put another one in an it blew again. the system is 2 15" kicker L7's and a MTX 1500W mono amp. what could be the problem?

Answer
Do you have a power cap in the system?  If so, it could be the cap has been discharged and needs re-charging.

Without a power cap, the most common high current problems encountered are:

ONE: Shorted down output transistor/fet in the power amp.
TWO: Shorted speaker line between the amp and the speaker terminals.
THREE: Shorted voice coil in speaker(s) caused from over heating.
FOUR:  Shorted 12v line between battery and amplifier.

Hope this will help you find the problem.

PS: The amp is supposedly good to drive a 2 ohm load.  If the kickers are 4 ohm dual voice coils and you have all four of the coils in parallel it could be you have loaded down the amplifier with too low impedance (1 ohm) which could take out the amp's output drivers.  The correct way would be to put the coils of each speaker in parallel, then the two speakers in parallel.  See this page for wiring configurations.
