Audio Systems: Humming noise from right audio output, rca jacks, burn something

Question
QUESTION: I hooked up a radio shack karaoke mic on Christmas to our dvd player and tv inputs, and ever since have had a humming sound coming from my right speakers ONLY when playing a DVD.  The speakers work properly when the TV is on and also while playing the VCR (DVD and VCR are separate units) but the right channel on DVD is humming and causes my surround sound to not work either.  I unplugged the wires coming from the DVD unit and it seems to stop when the red (rt audio) wire is unpluged but also then the TV only plays the DVD via stereo and not 5 channel stereo/Digital.  So it seems that the red output is not working.  Is this a DVD Player problem as the TV seams to work on its own just fine?  Did the Radio Shack microphone burn something out on the DVD player maybe?

ANSWER: Your question is a little confusing... What inputs did you hook this mic into - the dvd input? Was this input on a receiver or directly on the TV? What kind of connectors were on the mic?

You'll need to rephrase the question a bit clearer before I can advise.

QUESTION: I actually figured it out.  The DVD player seems to have been the issue.  The red connecter in the DVD player was not working as i purchased a new one and it is ok.  It just seems odd that after I plugged in the mic that the dvd stopped working...(btw when I plugged in the mic the mic had two sets of connectors which are both red, white and yellow-one set went to the tv and one set went to the DVD player)

Answer
Cool - I guess what was confusing me the most were the mic connections - but now that you've described the model, I see what you're saying.

Sometimes the RCA jacks on consumer electronics aren't as well attached / secured as they should be. On top of that, the plugs on the cables can be pretty tight as well - I've had connectors rip out of the back of my TV once due to a tight cable...

I'm glad you worked it out. Give me a shout if you need anything else...
