Audio Systems: car audio in home, man room, car subwoofers

Question
i have a 2000w 1ohm capable amp and two 15 inch fi car subwoofers. they are really awesome but i wrecked the car they were in. right now they aren't doing anything but sitting in the closet cuz my wife won't let me put it in the minivan. how bout the man room? what would it take to power this monster amp and subs in my house? is there a safe way? or should i look for a new hatchback?

Answer
While theoretically you can power up car audio stuff for home use it does not become very practical to do so.  If you use a 120vac to 12vdc converter the cost is very high and the operation is noisy and not so reliable.  Connecting it to home gear sometimes brings difficult grounding problems.  Further, the subs, while sounding terrific in the car, do not sound so terrific in the home, this due to totally different acoustic loading on the woofers.

It is better to keep these products in the car and buy home gear for the home.

Good Luck,
