Audio Systems: vcr recording, vcr recording, cable box

Question
When a video recorder, recording from another vhs or a dvd, the volume on the TV, has no effect.  But, when recording from the cable line (not LINE), the volume on the TV affects the volume of the recording.

If the TV is the final output, it can be off when recording, WHY does its volume affect the volume the VCR is recording.

Answer
That is correct. The TV is not the source it is the termination of A/V signals and would have no affect on any recording. The cable box is the source. If you record from the cable box only control the volume from the TV. If you control the volume from the cable box you will affect the recording level.
