Audio Systems: denon surround sound, home entertainment system, digital audio cable

Question
I have a denon home entertainment system that includes a radio, dvd player, and surround sound system. I do not have the owners manual and when i hooked it up, everything works except for the surround sound to the rear speakers and the center speaker. The subwoofer works and the two front speakers work only. I am not sure if there is a special procedure to hook up the other speakers, because when i checked the wires going to those speakers, they work.
Any ideas

Answer
One thing you should check is if there is a surround setting on the receiver. My Sony receiver has a menu setting that will only play from the fronts and the sub.
Also, if you are not using a digital audio cable from the DVD player to the receiver - you will not get true 5.1 surround (although you can get Pro Logic surround from a stereo input). Check and be sure you have a digital audio connection between the two (optical or coaxial - it doesn't matter).

If you look online, I'm sure you'll be able to download the owner's manual for your gear from the manufacturers websites. Typically they are in pdf form, so make sure you have a pdf reader on your computer.

I hope this helps.
