Audio Systems: kenwood kdc-116s, radio unit, kenwood radio


Question
I had my stereo stollen from my '92Jeep. I bought a used Kenwook KDC-16S stereo. But the wires in my jeep and the colors of wires on the stereo dont match. Which colors go together???

Take a look at the two URLs above.  They may be helpful in understanding the wiring colors used.  They are different year but there were few changes made from you '92 to those shown.

You can also purchase a wiring harness for your vehicle that will allow you to match a connector with pigtail leads then quick-twist them to the radio unit. This makes for easy connection and easy to pull the radio out later if you need to.  You can find these at:

and go to their "outfit my car" option.

A wiring harnesses are usually about $12.

If you are technically able with a VOM you can test out the wiring with the ohmmeter and put a tape on each wire labeling where it goes, then match it to the corresponding wires coming out of the radio unit.  But, believe me the wiring harness is the easier way to go.
