Audio Systems: Jetta Monsoon Raidio, audio amplifier, fuse box

Question
The car is an 03. One day suddenly, the radio will not produce sound. the power button/knob works the volume indicator works, but no other button. It will also accept and eject a cd, but will not play it. Any ideas? (I am somewhat electrically inclined)

Answer
Not clear what the problem is.

Let me see if I understand correctly:  No sound in any setting, not just radio, but no sound from cd or cassette?

QUESTION: Is there a sound from any of the speakers.  I mean ANY sound; even if you put your ear up close to the speaker with the volume turned up all the way?  Any hiss or crackle or anything? In any speaker?

IF:  the sound is totally dead in all speakers the audio amplifier in the system has failed or the power line fuse has gone out.

IF:  there is some sound but very weak or hiss only it is likely the audio amplifier is okey and the preamplifiers have failed.

IF:  there is some small audible sound with volume up all the way but it goes away when volume is down the problem is in the front end processing IC set.

Conclusion: If there is a bad fuse feeding the radio it could solve the problem when replaced.  Try searching for a fuse box marked for radio and replace it.  Otherwise you may have to have it looked at by a tech who can diagnose which part of the system has failed and what replacement is necessary.

Hope this helps.  Questions?  Let me know.
Cheers,
