Audio Systems: whole house wiring, whole house music system, home entertainment system

Question
Hi Wayne..  We have a whole house audio system, a Denon system with wired speakers throughout the house.  We are finishing a basement and will be putting in 4 speakers from the whole house music system.  We will be installing a separate home theatre system in the basement.  My questions are:
1.  Can in wall speakers have two feeder wire leads -- one from the music system and one from the home entertainment system.  (We would not have both systems on at the same time).
2. For most home theatre systems, hous may wire leads should we have the electrician install (before the sheetrock goes up) for most in wall speaker installation?
Thanks

Answer
Speaker cable comes in 2 conductor leads (one for +, one for -). Each speaker need a cable, so just make sure that wherever you'll have a speaker, you have a speaker cable going to that spot.

As far as your first question, I would not recommend it. I'd recommend sending line level (or if you have a coaxial digital audio line - even better) from the Denon to the basement system. For either digital audio or analog stereo cabling, I'd recommend Belden 1694A. It can handle long runs with little loss, and is CL2 rated. I would avoid optical / toslink over 30 feet.

Feeding the speakers like that would seem a bit risky to the amplifier sections of your gear. One accident and POOF - they'd both go up in smoke. Very expensive lesson to learn...
