Audio Systems: no sound, internal amplifier, amplifier output

Question
I have a older model Jensen that hooked up to power source and speakers but no sound. I am only using 2 speakers but has wiring for 4. I tried the speakers in all of the wiring place but nothing? I don't have an amp or anything just speakers direct to radio. Could the speaker wires gone bad in both speakers? or could the radio just died on me should i alteast be getting some fuzz or anything? thanks for your help

Answer
With the model number (you did not send me the model number so I cannot look it up for you) you can download the owners manual.

The manual will tell you the wiring scheme, color codes, etc.  Some radios do not even have a power amplifier in them and rely on an external amp, but you say it has speaker wires so we must assume it is a complete unit.

You can check the speakers with a c, d or 9 volt battery by touching the terminals to the wires of the speaker and see if you hear a bop or bloop when the battery is connected.  If not, the voice coil is open (blown out) and yes it is unusual that both speakers would be bad but stranger things have happened.

The radio internal amplifier may have failed as well.  If you know you have good speakers and they are connected to a proper amplifier output and the unit is ON and you get nothing then you should suspect the amps in the radio going/gone bad.

Let me know if you need more.
