Audio Systems: High School PA speakers, athletic booster club, fcc regulations

Question
Thanks Steve for being available.  This is my situation.
I volunteer in the high school concession stands a lot and
recently at our Athletic Booster Club meeting we all decided that it would be nice to HEAR the announcer as he
comments on the game.  With all the restrictions and codes,
we were wondering if there are wireless speakers that we could put in our concession stand.  The press box is probably less than 100 feet from the concession stand, give or take a little.  We thought about the same concept as a baby monitor, but nobody wants to hear what the announcer says when he's not "on the air", you know, comments on the kids, burping and such.  So do you know if there is a wireless speaker that would connect to a PA system.  Our football team had a great year last year and it would really be nice to hear what's going on when you're
making french fries, hamburgers, nachos w/cheese, etc.
Thanks so much for your help.

Answer
Hi Sonya-

Sorry it took so long to get a response... I've just switched email providers, and the notification that I got a new question never got to me!

For reliability and quality, you can't beat *wired* speakers. However, you may be able to rig something up with a guitar wireless system.... just plug the transmitter part that was intended to be plugged into the guitar into the audio feed from the press box. Then, plug the receiver into a powered speaker in your concession stand... although you *may* be out of range. Here's an example of what I'm suggesting: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/AKG-WMS-40-PROGuitarbug-UHF-Wireless-Syst...

There are also some wireless speakers available for home use http://www.amazon.com/Acoustic-Research-AW-871-Wireless-Speakers/dp/B00023NDLS
but these are not really meant for your intended purpose and probably will not last very long.

Ultimately, it's difficult to do what you want to do. The FCC regulations make it very hard to build an unlicensed device that transmits a useful distance.

Hope this helps!
