Audio Systems: compasitor, power capacitor, heavy duty alternator

Question
I have 2 12 inch memphis with the orange basket on a 1100 memphis class d amp. Yesterday i ask about my lights dimming when me bass hit. The compasitor I have is 1.0 20v. Would a stinger SHC6030 HMP30 farad amp cap be big enough to supply enough power.

Answer
As I stated previously a power cap is not a long-term fix, nor is it a good solution. It will help distribute from the battery but the system requirements remain the same.

Now, the SHC6030 HMP30 would be a fine cap; it is electronically multiplied and should do just fine. It will help to smooth out the power draw from the battery and boost the low frequency response of the amplifier for sure.  However, the total power to the audio system will remain the same and chances are the lights may not dim in synch with the bass loading, but, rather, just stay a little dim during heavy bass passages of music; dimming level of the headlights may be noticeable and maybe not; you can judge that after installation of the cap. But, I think what you will find is a slighter dimming of the lights but they will stay dim for a longer time because of the longer time it takes to charge up that big hunk of a cap.

If you go with the cap be sure and charge it up according to the installation instructions or you can blow fuses and melt wires and all kinds of scary stuff; it must be installed very carefully and in the sequence the instructions dictate to the user.

Let me know the outcome.   It's fine equipment you have running and lots of power; if the power is greater than the alternator system is able to keep up with you will eventually end up adding a heavy duty alternator I think......

Hope you get the solution wrapped up.  Best luck,

C
