Audio Systems: TV audio, panasonic dvd recorder, antenna input

Question
My outside analog antenna is connected to the Panasonic dvd recorder which in turn is connected to my Toshiba tv. All worked fine for several years.
Over the past few months, I lost the sound on my tv when I use the tv alone. I need to turn on the dvd recorder in order to get sound on the tv. I thought the tv speakers were the problem but I get sound when the dvd recorder is on.
I tried connecting the antenna directly to the tv, but I still get no sound. I thought the antenna was the problem but the antenna is also connected directly to another tv via a splitter and that tv has no sound problems.

Answer
ONE: Check the connections from the dvd to the tv. Go through the setup procedures and make sure all the settings are correct.  For example, in the menu check for audio; should not be on SAP but either mono or stereo.

TWO:  Make sure there is no internal/external speaker switch on the back of the set and if there is switch it to internal (unless you are using external speakers).

THREE:  Have you checked the splitter? They go bad often.  Pull the antenna off the splitter and connect it directly to the tv for test and verification that you are indeed getting a strong tv signal into the antenna input on the tv.

If you don't get results from the above, send me the make/model of the equipment you are using and I will research it for you.  Every set has different I/O interface connectors and I need to know the exact models you are using so we can get at the problem.  It must be determined, for example, if it is an internal problem, that is something gone wrong inside one of the sets, or external,  something wrong with the interconnecting cables or wiring.
