Audio Systems: display light and cd player trouble, stock stereo, ford explorer

I have a 99 ford explorer.  It has the original stock stereo in it and additional cd changer in middle console.  A few months ago the display light went out on stereo and just recently it will not play cd's.  I cannot see what is happening due to the display light being out.  The FM/AM Radio works just fine. I checked all fuses and can't find anything wrong.  It will take the cd but then eject it after a few seconds.  I do not hear any sounds or clicking??  Any ideas for either the display light or cd player?

display needs a new power supply board  about 100.00
repair the cd playerwill costabout the same
