Audio Systems: Pioneer 6 CD player PD-M430, laser optics, electronic meter

Question
QUESTION: I had read through your site and found a thread of someone having the same problem of the cd's cycling through but not playing....the tech said he thought it was a optics problem, and that he felt that the lens had fallen out....well I removed the cover looked around and sure enough found the optic lens rolling around the bottom of the unit. I removed the optic unit and lightly glued the lens back in but the unit seems to still not work.....Did I do something wrong or do you have any area I could check? Thanks Brad

ANSWER: The work of laser optics is done with micro precision. If the tech told you, you could just glue it back in, then I don't think much of his technical experience. I'm not saying that it couldn't work but I would think that the chances are one in 10,000.

QUESTION: So what you are saying is that some kind of electronic meter is used to check alignment and that I'll need to take it to a qualified repair person?

Answer
Yes.... but taking it to someone authorized is not necessarily what I would recommend. Last time I checked I was able to find a 6 CD changer for under $100. If your unit is out of warrantee then the repair costs could exceed the cost of a new one. Because CD sales are way down most manufacturers purchase their machines OEM from one Asian manufacturer.
