Audio Systems: speakers, reciever, and amp, crossover networks, channel amp

Question

"Ok,here it goes...I have a Sony DA555 ES reciever,Sony 55ES 2 channel amp,and a Denon POA2800 2 channel amp.I just bought these 2 amps to power my new speakers which are Speakercraft Starlet 6's. Each of these speakers have a seperate hook up for the tweeters and the woofers.I used the pre out's on the back of the reciever to hook up to the amps. The Denon runs the woofers and the Sony runs the tweeters. I had to use the rear pre outs on the reciever for the tweeter's amp. The speakers sound really bad, they sound muffled and have a funny echo to them. I'm lost on what I shound do. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks"

Answer
Did you add the crossover networks?  If you put full frequency power into the tweeters they will burn out easily, so be careful.

You should consult with Speakercraft as they have the 6s in so many configurations that may require special interface connections.  For example, they may have internal crossovers you can use for single amp drive and bi-amping as an option. So, you must do a little research on the speakers which you have.

Speakercraft has a customer support page at:

and I urge you to communicate with them giving them the specific model number and serial number of the speakers you have.

Thanks,
