Audio Systems: speakers, sales pitches, strip malls

Question
in the late 1980'S I picked up a pair of Acoustic Monitor dbIV Liquid Cooled Digital ready speakers...they still sound great, a friend wants to buy them, and I can't find out ANYTHING about them!

Answer
Go to:

http://www.faqs.org/faqs/AudioFAQ/part5/

On the above page, go down to question 12.6.

They are what we call "van" speakers; sold by
people out of a van in strip mall parking lots
and such places.  They are workable speakers
but not worth anywhere close to what they claim
they are worth.  As the page above states, they
are probably $100 speakers.  Used would be worth
much less.

I generally agree with the findings of the author
of the above referenced web page.  There are many
such products found not only in strip malls in
the back of a van but at flea markets, eBay and
such places.  They represent a very high profit
margin for those selling them to unsuspecting persons
who go for their exaggerated sales pitches.

Hope this helps.
