Audio Systems: Crate bfx100, exact kind, diode

Question
Hi
I have a crate bfx100 and it blows a fuse when you plug it in.It does not even have to be "on".This amp is only worth a $100.00 so I can not not afford a tech.I am using this as a training cituation. There is nothing visually hot or burned. It sounds like the transformer to me.How do you check a Transformer?

Answer
The transformer in amp amp is usually for impedance matching. It could also be a transistor, diode or a host of other components causing the problem.

Using a meter, you'll have to trace down the problem(s) and correct them. A schematic will also help, if you can obtain one.

Replace parts with the exact kind or you'll be asking for trouble.

Good luck!
