Audio Systems: Right sub for the job, consumer electronics association, watts rms

Question
Hello, I am looking to replace my two 12" subs in a vented enclosure with a sealed single 12" sub. I'd like to know if I should just replace both subs (only one works anyway) or downgrade to the single sealed box. Right now the MTX Thunder sounds just Ok. I want a sharper bass though. I was looking at the Pioneer 12" 800-Watt Subwoofer (TSW301R). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
For more accurate (but not as boomy) bass, a sealed enclosure is your best bet.

Ignore peak values on any car audio equipment. RMS is what you need to match up to an amp. With that, that sub is 150 watts RMS and 4 ohm, keep that in mind when looking for an amp.

Oh, look for CEA-2006 compliant amps.

An amp/Head Unit with this certificate means the amp/HU was voluntarily submitted by the manufacturer to the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) for testing using a standard method for all amplifiers or HUs. Passing this testing means the amp produces the watts RMS stated in the specs.

This is a big plus for consumers as a lot of manufacturers lie about there ratings just to make a sale. You know exactly what your getting from a certified amp, no guess work.
