Audio Systems: multiple rooms on one internet source, channel amps, u s cellular coliseum

Question
Hi Sparky,  i don't know if this is something you deal with or not but i listen a lot to internet radio and i'd like to be able to play it in different rooms around my house.  installing an intercom system and hooking up my computer to it may be the answer but i wanted to see if there were any other options since the speakers on them aren't great.  i'd like to have on/off and volume control at the computer (either on the computer or an external device) and also have on/off and volume control in each of the rooms.  also, could you recommend any small speakers that would work for this?

Thanks,

Chad

Answer
There quite a few options and all at varying prices.

Wireless is the most popular with some "need to know" potential problems. In 2009 the FCC is changing many wirless frequency signals to digital. I'm not up on what is all going to change.

When shopping for a digital wirless speaker system, you must look at what equipment (cordless phones, etc,) you already have that may interfere. The most popular frequencies currently for cordless phones is 900Mhz(old), 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz wireless speaker systems use 2.4 GHz and up.

A hard wired system can be costly as well, depending on the complexity of the system. They are done by using a few proffesional multi-channel amps connected to a fancy switch that allows total control.

I would highly recommend seeking a professional for this task.

5 years of my life wasted at Radio $hack. I now work for a commercial audio installation company for large venues, arenas and sound stages. We just put 20,000 watts at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
