Audio Systems: Kenwood stereo, output transistors, output transistor

Question
QUESTION: I have a Kenwood stereo system KA-127. I believe the amplifier isn't
working; there is no sound from radio, CD or cassette players.  I had trouble
with this same part about 10 years ago and had it repaired. Can you tell me
where to do this again? My zip is 64057. The sound is great; has 2 huge
speakers; I hate to give it up.
Thanks.

ANSWER: The most common failure parts are the output transistors.  Do you have the repair slip from the last time?  If so, post the replaced parts here.  I'll try to locate the part numbers for you.

QUESTION: Sorry - I don't have the repair parts list, hence no numbers. May I send the
amplifier to you, or do you know of a repair place in Kansas City or
Independence, MO? Thanks for your help.

ANSWER: I could repair this, but I'm on the east coast.  I have not yet located the service manual, but I have inquiries for it.

QUESTION: Thanks for checking, etc. Since we've just moved, I may dig out a service
manual yet! Your service is wonderful - please keep it up!

Answer
Keep in mind that some shops only change the bad output transistor.  I have always changed them in pairs.  Usually if one of two that work together goes bad, it can cause the good one to work too hard for a while.  It may continue to work for a while, but I always change it anyway to prevent call backs.  Even if the outputs are bad, the cost shouldn't exceed $120 for parts and labor for the repair.
