Audio Systems: laptop to duel cd connection probelm, cd dj mixer, phono input

Question
QUESTION: I have a duel cd player with audio inputs for cd/tape ect. on the back panel. I am hooking my laptop up to this with a cord that hooks to the headphone jack on the laptop and then into the input on the duel cd player, and i keep getting a lound crackling/buzzing sound out of the speakers, and it's only when i hook the laptop up, i have all the equipment plugged in to a furman sound conditioner and still get this sound, what is the problem is there another proper way to hook a laptop up to a system. this way works fine with my home Yamaha receiver....

ANSWER: CD players do not have audio inputs, rather, they have audio outputs.  The headphone connection on the laptop is an output, not an input.

The furman amp is for inputs only. It is just a power amplifier to feed the speakers.

So, I suppose you have some connections wrong in your hookup.  Go to this page and select a system typical of your setup and it will give you some hookup configurations.

QUESTION: ok, maybe I used the wrong wording. I have a Gemini CDM-3600 Dual CD /DJ Mixer Combo that has Auxiliary Inputs for Phono or Line devices. That is what I plugging into, I am going from the laptop headphone output. using a cord that has a headphone plugin on one side and the red and white plugs on the other.....

Answer
You cannot go into the phono input on the Gemini - if that is what you are doing.

If you are using the line input and still getting the strange sounds it is likely a defective line amp inside the pc amp OR the input stage of the Gemini.

It is easy to check, just take the output of the pc and feed it into another amplifier for check.

Many pc audio outputs have grounding problems that require special wiring or cable alterations.
