Land Rover Repair: LR Freelander Reverse, transmission fluid change, transmission repair

Question
I purchased an 02 freelander. The seller explained that he had the oi and fluids changed after changing the transmission fluid the car no longer had reverse. It seems to go into reverse but does not engage. It seems that this should be a simple fix. It doesn't appear that anything has been abused. The car has 76,000 miles. Any advise on where to begin?

Answer
Hi Dewey,

from my understanding of what you wrote:  the person who sold the Freelander reported that the reverse gearing does not work because of a transmission fluid change.  I've never heard of that - unless the person changing out the fluid somehow did damage and admitted nothing.  Then again, you are taking the word of the seller who may not understand what had happened.

Where to begin?  Have the Freelander analyzed by an experienced LR mechanic.  It could be as simple as some gearing adjustment or more complex requiring transmission repair or replacement.  Only a qualified LR shop could do this - not the local garage that flushes fluids.

Best of luck,
