Audio Systems: sharp audio outputs, cinema dsp, rca cable

Question
QUESTION: I  have a Sharp LC26AD22U - its a flatscreen/dvd combo.  I want to run the audio through my stereo but there are no "regular" audio outputs; there is one digital output - and I can get sound but from the DVD only.  I don't have a cable box. Its all inputs- totally different than my other TV.

Thanks
Jon

ANSWER: I looked up the TV jack panel online, and you're out of luck - unless you have a digital input on the stereo you want to use.

QUESTION: Thanks.

What if I was to get a cable box - would that solve the problem?

ANSWER: I'd say yes, as long as the cable box has stereo output. This will still not allow you to hear the DVD audio (unless you have a digital input on the stereo).

To answer this question more effectively, I need to know what kind of receiver you have. Is it a surround system or strictly 2 channel stereo?

If you have a surround system, and you are only getting DVD audio from the digital output of the TV, you will need a cable box with some kind of separate audio outs to get the broadcast audio to your system.

I find it odd that Sharp would only have a single digital out on the TV. You'd think that they'd at least include a stereo out as well...

I hope this helps.

QUESTION: I have a Yamaha Cinema DSP Digital reciever/amp. When running from the TV to the reciever (digital audio in and out) - I get DVD sound only (I'm using a regular rca cable - I assume they make a special digital cable).
The Yamaha is surround sound as well as stereo output  (I have kitchen speakers hooked to surround and the actual system is hooked to stereo outs - strange I know)- but is DVD only on both.
The other thing i found - my TV manual says that the digital audio out is only "active" if i have a digital signal - which i don't have (except perhaps the DVD?).
Anyway, i guess i'll get the ugly cable box and add some more clutter.

Answer
Yeah - it sounds like the cable box is the only answer.
FYI - a standard RCA cable is all you need for digital audio. If you're getting a signal, buying a more expensive cable won't improve it since it is a digital bitstream.
As far cabling is concerned, I recommend tartancables.com or bluejeanscable.com. Stay away from the retail store cabling as you will be paying up to 400% more than the dealer costs.
