Audio Systems: Will this amp work?, load impedance, amp power

Question
We bought the dual BP1204 12inch subwoofers in an illuminite box the guy at best but told us that the rockford and fosgate p-300 would be enough? the subs are 1100 max and 600rms? and the amp has max power of 11273 and a rms of 300 actual power 424? wil this work or do we need a bigger amp?

Answer
Any amp will always work with just about any speaker.

Biggest alert is to make sure the load impedance on the amp does not go lower than what the amp is rated for.  Why?  Fireworks.  Load impedance too low will overload the amp and burn it out faster than you can imagine.

So far as power matching:  If the amp power output seems too high, just be careful not to overpower the speakers. You can tell when they go into distortion.  If you are underpowered the amp will go into distortion early and you will realize the power needs boosted.

If the sensitivity of the Dual is over 98db you will have enough power. If the sensitivity is lower, say as low as 89db you should have a higher power rating.

Finally, to a great extent the power levels will be a function of the kind of music you want to hear and how far you like to crank it up.  If you like to make the whole neighborhood angry then you need much more power. If you listen to classical music the power is more than adequate.   And so on.

Good Luck,
