Audio Systems: help with hooking up mulit souce., comcast hd cable box, sony dav

hi
i am having trouble hooking up my sony dav-hdx265 home theatre system.  i am trying get my ps3 and comcast hd cable box to work.  i have a samsung 61" DLP with 2 hdmi ports.  ps3 and cable is using the hdmi and the dvd receiver using component.  
i have great sound playing dvds.  im using y splitter rca jacks from the ps3 and cable box audio to the only audio in on the receiver.  the sound only will come out of one speaker..help me please.

Here are the rules:
HDMI carries both video and audio signals.
IN means to put a signal into that port.
OUT means a signal is coming out of that port.

Also, Sony has good pictorals in their manuals and online as does Yamaha.

PS: I do not like component inputs; with game devices connected to the works you get better results with composite video and analog audio if that option is available to you. That is my opinion only.
