Audio Systems: Speaker cable, good speakers, speaker output

Question
GDay
I am setting up a small recording setup (hobby ie cheap) and using any bits of gear I can find lying around. I have two pair of speakers set up as stereo but each side (L and R)is using different cable. One is twin flex copper electrical cable. Does this limit the distance that can be run ? For example if it is too far would the speaker output be weaker?
How do you calculate what cable is required for a particular situation? As always I am looking for the cheapest solution.

Answer
Good is not always the cheapest solution. If you only care that the speakers work then any cable heavier that 18 AWG will work as long as the distance is under 50 feet. Using the same cable for each speaker is essential only if your very good speakers and want to achieve quality results.
