Audio Systems: VW Passat Monsoon Stereo & MP3, auxiliary input adapter, fm transmitters

My daughter has a 2003 VW Passat with Monsoon stereo. She would like to play an iPod thru the stereo.  I've read negative reviews of the FM transmitter type of interface. Is there any direct input possibility with this stereo? If not, is there an FM transmitter that works well?

fm transmitters are horrible  the best way is a direct connection  you have 2 options
this is the bes interface audio is cd quality,full controls from Volkswagen radio and steering wheel controls and it also charges the ipod
