Audio Systems: stereo system cuts in and out, sony cd changer, sony cdp cx355

Question
QUESTION: I hope you can help. We had a music sytem ( amps, cd changer and multiple speakers/zones) installed in our retail store about 18 months ago. Almost from the beginning, we experienced the sound cutting out or the volume lowering in different zones with the store. We called out the installers and they could find nothing wrong and suggested it was our cd's. We thought this might make sense due to all of the cd's being home created and not store purchased. We have purchased all new cd's and there continues to be a problem. Certain songs on CD's will cut in and out. I can take these CD's and play them in other cd players ( car stereo, computer or home stereo) and they play just fine. I just happen to own the same Sony cd changer at home and brought it into work to see if it made a difference.....the same songs still cut out. I immediatly took those cd's out of my changer and played them in my PC and they played great. Any ideas? Before I call out a professional/tech to our store, I hped you might have an idea of what was happening or ideas on how to correct it. Thanks!!

ANSWER: Drawing from my background in pro audio is your multi-zone system consumer audio or commercial audio? Have you tried another source like radio, iPod to see if the sound still cuts out?

QUESTION: the installers set us up with 2 Bogen C-100 amps and a Sony CDP-CX355 CD changer...system covers our 30,000 sq foot building.....not sure whether these would be considered commercial or consumer pieces of equipment. We have not tried other sources.

Answer
The Bogen pieces are commercial PA 70volt amplifiers. If the sound is cutting out in all zones at the came time I would first change the cable connecting the CD changer to the amplifiers. The next thing I would do is substitute the CD player for another type of source (even temporarily). If the problem still persists than I would need to know how zoning is  being accomplished to give you a more educated answer. If you can do a block diagram in a Word or CADD program, that would be helpful. How many speakers are there? How many in each zone? 30K ft is a very large space.
