Audio Systems: Car stereo, chevy dealers, electronic failure

The stereo in my Avalanche all of the sudden does not show what station I am on, the song that is playing, it does not display the time and the cd will not come out.  None of the seek and scan buttons work on the console by the stereo, but will work on my steering wheel.

First thought is one of the connectors between the unit and the cable going up to the steering wheel has come loose causing some of the connections inside to go open.  Wiggle the cable and pull the connector out of the back of the head unit and reinsert carefully to get good connect.

I hope it is not an electronic failure of the head unit.  That could be expensive.

So, if the cable checking and thumping on the unit does not bring it back to life I suggest you take it to a good install/repair shop that has experience with the Avalanche.  Most Chevy dealers cannot handle this unless they have a trained A/V tech expert on staff (only 1 out of 5 dealers have such a person).
