Land Rover Repair: 2002 Land Rover Discovery wont start, land rover discovery, messes

Question
We just aought our daughter a "certified pre-owned" Discovery thinking it would be reliable and safe.  Sometimes when she turns the key nothing happens.  Is there some sequence or procedure we aren't aware of in order to start these cars (e.g., parking brake on, foot on brake).  It starts most of the time but the randomness of this scares me a bit, I just wondered if there is a simple explanantion.  It is undeer warranty so we can take it back to the dealer, just hoping to avoid the trip.

Answer
There is no quick answer . . . I'd take it back to the dealer.  It could be an ignition switch, a starter, or something else.  It may have to get worse in order to be successfully diagnosed.  Often repair people need to catch a failure like this in the act to be sure, and if it only messes up 1 time in 100 that's hard.

Are you the fellow that emailed me before with the daughter in the Northeast?  If so, we service under LR Assured extended plans in Western MA.
