Audio Systems: connecting factory steering wheel controls to an aftermarket in-dash receiver, pioneer cd player, bose oem

Question
I purchased a Pioneer CD Player from Crutchfield along with a "PAC Adapter" that allows my factory steering wheel controls to operate the Pioneer.  Crutchfield generally gives good installation instructions, but in this case, they rely on PAC's instructions included with their adapter.  After many attempts, I'm unsuccessful at programming the adapter.  I spoke with a rep. from PAC and he wanted me to run to radio shack and get a bunch of stuff that neither their instructions mentioned and I'd never heard of.  If you or others have had a similar problem or know a solution, please let me know.

My vehicle is a 2006 Chevy Silverado

Thanks.  Eric

Answer
Sorry, I don't have experience with this.  But, the adapter is not a trivial matter and I can believe the "parts" may be necessary that are mentioned by PAC representative.

Installer has a bunch of adapters and wiring harnesses; whether they have one for the oem Silverado or not I don't know but you can search through their catalog online.  Email them and maybe they can help you with an alternate solution.

Further, if your system was the Bose oem stuff it is more difficult.

Try contacting this online seller who seems to have lots of experience with this kind of installation.

Hope this helps, but sorry I don't have a specific answer for you on this one.
