Audio Systems: Kicker SXRC, kicker amps, crossover point

Question
Hi Cleggsan.

I drive a little mitsubishi eclipse spyder 1997 model.
i got rid of the back seat to make room for my 15" mtx 9500 subwoofer 4 ohm on a 3.0 cu.ft. approx. slot ported enclosure. 2 sets of Kicker KS 6 1/2" component systems
im running 2 SX Kicker amps SX 1250.1 and SX 700.4 for mids and highs.
i got the SXRC but it just has one too many settings
question is, can you please tell me a good freq. bandwidth, boost/cut. etc. etc. configuration and what would be the changes on them for like different styles of music.

Answer
It is very subjective; there are too many factors relating to the acoustic properties of the car space, crossover slope and positioning of the drivers..

Most car playback systems are done by trial and error listening tests.  Obtain a few good test recordings for a reference and adjust the crossover point and the drive level until you get the satisfying results.  Since reproduction in cars is never true high fidelity you must set it for the best you can get - and that which sounds good to your ears.  Since you are using a 15" sub you are no doubt interested in bass at very high levels.  Should give you great sound.

I use several Telarc recordings, good female vocal, male vocal for system balancing.  If you can get the bass adjusted with recordings like PaPa Doo Run Run by Telarc, track 3, 9 and 15 and then go to some good vocals you will be able to get a balance that will be good for all kinds of music.

Hope this helps.
