Audio Systems: 93 Accord BOSE, radio unit, dash unit

Question
Hi, every time I start my car up my BOSE (factory installed) system asks for a code. The fuse is fine. This has been going on for too long and I find it very exasperating when I find myself in a hurry and the head unit doesn't pick up all the key strokes and assumes I entered the wrong code. Then of course, after the third time is goes into "lock-down" mode for an unknown-to-me amount of time. Is there any suggestion as to what I can do without paying an un-Godly amount to have it fixed? Thanks in advance!

Answer
The code is anti-theft protection.  It goes off when the power is removed from the radio.

When you enter the wrong number too many times it assumes a thief is trying to break the code so it goes into a time out for a period of time assuming the true owner will come back in the meantime!

So, you must find out why the power is turning off when you shut off the car.  There are two power lines that feed the radio unit. One stays on all the time; the other is switched only when the ignition is ON.  Apparently the main power is being switched when the car is off and it should not be.  You can check it yourself if you have a voltmeter and know how to measure voltage of the wires feeding the radio unit (you may have to pull the radio out of the dash in order to get at the wires at the rear of the in-dash unit).

I don't think it will be a very expensive repair if you were to take it into a good repair shop, either.

All the best,
Cleggsan
