Audio Systems: VW Speakers, factory speakers, voice coils

Question
Hi. I own a 1999 volkswagen beetle. I recently drove my car and realized that my front right speaker was rattling. I'm assuming that it is busted? Also, I've noticed that when i turn the volume up it will only go so high. In the past i tried to turn it up really high. Are my factory speakers goin or was it from me trying to turn in up too high? Also, should i just replace the front speakers? what brand would you recommend and how do i do this???

Answer
You have overpowered the speakers; the voice coils have come loose and causing the rattle.  You must replace it.

Go to www.crutchfield.com and run through their list of speakers that will fit your car.  Then choose one that will handle plenty of power.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-s5TiMwIamrE/cgi-bin/autoinfo/AutoInfo.asp?vehicleid...

The above url is where you can enter your car details.

You do not have to purchase from crutchfield, but if you do they will send you installation instructions.

Hope this helps.
